Emma Fretwell D.C. Veterinary Chiropractic
My Background

Having lived and worked with animals all my life, I decided on a career change into healthcare for both animals and people.

I trained as a human chiropractor for a number of years, before receiving my Doctor of Chiropractic, and with further education I received my initial qualification to treat animals. I then found another further education course that looked fantastic: post-graduate training in Veterinary Chiropractic, which is offered to vets and chiropractors only. At this time there was only 5 people previously qualified from this course practicing in the UK. Currently there are 30-40 vets and chiropractors educated to this level here in Britain.

I am independently certified by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association, both in the UK and many other countries. I hold a membership to the College of Chiropractors and The United Chiropractic Association. I also have full Professional Indemnity Insurance for the treatment of humans and animals.

The International Veterinary Chiropractic Association was set up in 2002 by a group of vets and chiropractors in Europe interested in furthering the profession of Animal Chiropractic. Today, the IVCA has a three-fold mission: to function as a professional membership group; to promote legal and ethical animal chiropractic to professionals and the public; and to act as the certifying agency for those who have undergone the appropriate veterinary chiropractic training. One of the major goals of the IVCA is to provide the public with unhampered access to ethical doctors trained in Veterinary Chiropractic. The IVCA also insists upon 30 hours of Continuous Professional Development over 3 years, to maintain awareness of the profession, and to keep abreast of the latest developments, both practical and political.

Since 2007 I have been on the Managing Board for the IVCA,. I am currently an examiner for the Board Exams throughout Europe and USA, and now head a proactive team of veterinary chiropractors, raising awareness of this Association amongst Vets and the general public in the UK and overseas.

Not only treating horses and dogs, I have been researching and developing chiropractic treatment techniques for birds; and starting a feasibility study for the treatment of Dairy cows, for the overall health of the herd, and reduction of bacteria in the milk – results soon to be announced!!
